Farmer, Businessman Team Up
For Biodiesel Demo At Ag Progress

Matt Steiman was working on
his own biodiesel project at Wil
son College this spring when he
heard that a Pennsylvania busi
ness group was exploring the pos
sibility of building a commercial
scale biodiesel facility in the area.
So Steiman contacted Mike
Gerhart, a consultant with the
Regional Economic Development
District Initiative (REDDI) based
in Harrisburg. REDDI is looking
into how a facility making biodie
sel from soybeans might help
boost agriculture and the overall
economy in the mid-state.

Steiman said Gerhart encour
aged him to demonstrate his bio-
diesel-making apparatus at Ag
Progress Days this week. Steiman
just recently began producing
biodiesel fuel from waste fryer oil
in the 50-gallon tank equipped
with a circulating pump that he

As a result, Ag Progress visi
tors had the chance to not only
learn about biodiesel fuel, but
watch it being produced from
soybean oil.
