Cassandra Shenk, 16, daughter of Barry
and Cheryl Shenk, Mount Joy, exhibited a
reserve champion at the roundup, her first
time. Cassandra purchased the steer,
“Otis,” from Walnut Run Farm, Man
heim.
Jenna Hershberger, 12, Josh’s sister,
won grand champion beef showman at the
roundup. She’s in seventh grade at the
Swift Middle School.
At the market swine competition earlier
in the week, Tiffany Dean exhibited the
grand champion hog. Tiffany, 17, daugh
ter of Gary and Joan Dean, Strasburg, ex
hibited a middleweight champion barrow
named “Doc.”
Tiffany, who has nine years in 4-H,
nicknamed the Blue Butt (York/
Hampshire crossbred) barrow after a doc
tor she purchased the hog from in Clinton
County.
Tiffany said she used commercial “show
feed” to help provide the hog with a good
finish. Tiffany noted she wanted to thank
her dad, Gary, for taking care of the hogs
“when I went to Europe for three weeks,”
she said.
Tiffany plans to show at various fairs,
including Solanco, Lampeter, Keystone,
and Farm Show.
