was moderate. Demand was moderate.
Live supplies were moderate for plant
needs with an estimated slaughter of
1,342,000 compared to 1,228,000 last
Tuesday. Weights were desirable. Pro
cessing schedules were moderate. Supply
and demand of leg quarters was moder
ate.
Negotiated F. 0.8. dock prices, 2
pounds and heavier ice-packed broilers
and fryers, trucklot sales of US Grade A
or equivalent were steady at .56 - .68 per
pound; less than trucklot sales .55 - .70
per pound.

fair to moderate overall. Offerings of 3

sizes.

PARTS AND BULK MEAT, Frozen, un
less specified, cents per lb, delivered first
receivers, part and full trucklots, as of
July 29. The undertone on fresh white
meat was mostly steady with instances of
improved seller confidence noted. Inquiry
light to fair with some interest noted for
prompt shipments. Offerings mixed with
some product for immediate deliveries
held with more confidence than product
for later arrivals. The undertone on frozen
white meat was steady to instances weak.
Demand slow. Offerings mixed with some
sellers reluctant to move frozen white
meat at current price levels. Meanwhile,
some buyers are cautious about utilizing
frozen inventories choosing instead to
take advantage of current bargain fresh
white meat markets. The undertone on
4-8 lb. breasts was mostly steady with
signs of increased strength starting to ap
pear. Demand fair for the light to ade
quate offerings. Domestic trading moder
ate on plant grade 4-8 lb. breasts, balance
spotty. Fresh wing wing meat traded at 38
and fresh scapula at 55 cents delivered
domestic. Export trading was slow to
moderate, best on tom drums. Export de
mand was moderate with the best interest
noted on drums and thigh meat. Some
tom defatted gizzards traded at 49 cents
delivered export.

June 2003 U.S. pig crop at 8.25
million head, was 3 percent below
the previous year.
Sows farrowing during this pe
riod totaled 926 thousand head, 4
percent below last year. The aver
age pigs per litter for June in
creased to 8.91, compared to 8.89
last year.
The U.S. inventory of sows and
gilts on July 1,2003, was 5.76 mil
lion head, down 4 percent from
July 1,2002.
U.S. sows and gilts bred during
June totaled 1.14 million head,
down 3 percent from the previous
year.
