LEBANON (Lebanon Co.)
By now, Chanelle Horst can be
sure she picked a big-time winner
when she decided to buy Ju Vin
dale Jolt Apricot two years ago.
Last year, Horst led Apricot to
the Holstein reserve champion
ship at the Lebanon Fair and to
the top of the Southeast Pennsyl
vania Championship Show. Apri
cot also won at the Pennsylvania
Junior Holstein Show in Harris
burg last September.
Horst and the 4-year-old cow
marked another milestone this
week when Apricot was named
supreme youth champion dairy
cow and Horst received the Dale
Maulfair Jr. Memorial Award
Tuesday at the Lebanon Fair.
“She shows real dairy (charac
ter), tremendous feet and legs,
and has an absolutely gorgeous
udder,” judge David Castrogio
vanni said of why he put Apricot
at the top of show.
Not that Horst’s EX-93 cow
didn’t have a tough field to com
pete with, including Dustin
Horning’s reserve grand champi
on, 4-year-old Turnpike View
Counselor Breeze a product of
Heath Spatz leads his
4-H champion Jersey in the
ring during selection of the
supreme champion.

Horning’s own breeding pro
gram.
T’ve seen championship shows
where the lineup wasn’t any
stronger than this 4-H lineup,”
Castrogiovanni said.
Horst, 17, will be a senior this
fall at Elco High School. She is
the daughter of Kirby and Sheryl
Horst. The family milks about 50
high-quality cows at Lyncrest
Farms near Newmanstown.
Chanelle purchased Apricot
from Vince and Julia Wagner of
Ju Vindale Farms. Apricot’s dam
is Ju Vindale Levi Ann and her
sire is Second Look Jolt.
Dustin Horning, Stevens,
handily led his animals to the
other three champion slots in the
4-H Holstein Show. Beside exhib
iting reserve grand champion,
Horning also showed the junior
champion and reserve junior
champion, and had the best 4-H
bred and owned cow.
Cows shown by Daniel Eberly
and Kendra Trego, respectively,
