Randy and Gail Watson lost their barn when a concrete silo fell on
top of it in September 2001 —ll days after the terrorist attacks in New
York City and Washington.
When the Watsons found out that the insurance company wouldn’t
cover the loss, “it was either quit farming or rebuild and keep going,”
Randy said. The family decided to keep going, and are now milking
about 60 Holsteins in a new tiestali barn. They continue to grow corn,
alfalfa, mixed hay, rye, and oats to feed and bed the cows.

Randy’s parents Roy H. and Lucille “Did" Watson first bought the
200-acre farm in 1968, and Randy began milking here after graduating
high school in 1974. Roy still helps out around the farm. “He always
likes to be around the cows,” Randy said.
Randy and Gail have three daughters. Natasha, 23; Lakeyja Perkins,
21; and Cheyenne, 20 are all working or studying in health-related
fields.
