It was “Raining Fashion” at last week’s Penn State Coopera tive Extension Capital Region’s Fashion Revue competition con ducted in Carlisle. Twenty-three senior 4-H’ers from seven counties competed for the opportunity to represent the Capital Region at Penn State 4-H Achievement Days in August. The eight winners from the Capi tal Region will have the opportu nity to model with sixty-four other 4-Hers from across the state. This is an exciting event where young people get to prac tice their communication skills and develop poise during the all day event. Participants at the Regional Revue were judged on selection of fabric and pattern compatibili ty, construction techniques, and modeling presentation. Ten 4-H’ers will represent the Southeastern Region at the State 4-H Fashion Revue, July 30, Penn State’s University Park Campus. Sue Giachero, extension edu cator Berks County, said the gold ribbon winners were selected at the Regional Revue, July 1 in the Perkins Student Center of the Penn State Berks Campus. The gold ribbon winners in clude Jena Rutt, Jesica Knitter, Cassie Newcomb, and Shelly Kneebone, all of Northampton County; Kelli Schlegel, Berks Co.; Katie Kauffman, Berks Co.; Kathryn Gillen, Montgomery county; Caitlin Celia and Jamie Celia, Berks Co.; and Stacey Mangold, Lehigh County. Blue Honor winners included Lianna Sanford, Chester County; Julie Albanese, Northampton County; Ashley Loeb, Bemville; and Jessica Mangold, Lehigh County. Those between the ages of eight and twelve also had the op portunity to practice their model ing skills and gain confidence while interacting with the fashion revue judges. This year, two sets of judges each selected their top five juniors. The job was chal lenging as thirty-six young people competed for the top 10 positions and the prized royal blue ribbon. The following are the junior winners: Anna Gilbert from Adams County; Katelyn Miller from Dauphin County; from Franklin County, Quinn Cashell, Marlee Beckner, Madison Weng er and Kenny Beaver; from Leba non County Marah Light and Brooke Umberger and from Lan caster County Laura McEUhen ney; and Kelly King. These winners are Erin Zeigler, New Ringgold; Hannah Stabo lepszy, Leesport; Mallory Ketter er, Bemville; Christine and Maria Sanford, Chester County; Sarah Vezzetti and Gabrielie Ochoco of Bucks County; and Molly Lichtenwalner of Lehigh County. At the State Revue, the senior gold ribbon winners will compete with 60 winners from other re gions for a place in the state hon ors group where a panel of pro fessional judges selects 12 finalists. The entrants are judged on garment construction, fit, de gree of construction difficulty, appropriateness of garment for the 4-H’er, and modeling ability. By participating in the series of county, regional, and state re vues, 4-H textiles science project members have a chance to turn self-consciousness into self-confi dence. Participants learn about ward robe selection, the importance of good posture, physical fitness and other aspects of grooming. Northampton County Fashion Revue At Nursing Home NAZARETH (Northampton Co.) “It’s Raining Fashion” was the fitting theme for the Northampton County 2003 4-H Fashion Revue, at Gracedale Nursing Home in Nazareth. Seven seniors, 16 juniors, and four Cloverbud 4-H members had a day full of modeling, judging, making a craft project, and having fun with their friends. They shared the day with and received modeling tips from Miss Pennsylvania, Autumn Marisa. The days’ events culminated with each participant modeling their outfit for friends, family, and residents of Gracedale at the Fashion Show. Junior Show participants were: Berks 4-H’ers Prepare For Fashion Revue LEESPORT (Berks Co.) Eleven 4-Hers from Berks Coun ty were selected to represent the county in the southeast region at 4-H Fashion Revue at the Penn State Berks Campus. Nine 4-H members were awarded the judges’ choice awards. Gene Miller and Ben Barber, Judges for the radio spots divi sion selected Crystal Lehman and Darbie Garman, both of Newville as their top radio spot presenters in the Junior Division. Ambyr Tritt, Newville, Kristin Egolf, Carlisle, and Michelle Thomas, Carlisle were their choice in the Senior Division. Alex Mains, Newville, with a Junior Demonstration entitled “Make a Deposit today with Milk” and Caleb Burkholder, Carlisle with his Senior Demon stration entitled “cuts of hogs” were selected as tops in the Ani mal Science presentations by judges Janet Holston and Marel Raub.
