    Sisters Reign As Perry County Dairy Royalty
MILLERSTOWN (Perry Co.)
Amanda and Erica Kresge
brought home the crowns and
sashes from the Perry County
Dairy Princess Pageant con
ducted on June 7. Lenard and
Amy Kresge of Loysville are the
parents of these accomplished
young ladies.
The top prize was won by
Amanda, who is 17 years old and
will be a senior at West Perry
High School. She served as the
Alternate Dairy Princess last year
and received her crown from the
2002-2003 princess. Amber Rock.
Her numerous activities in
clude FFA, dairy judging, 4-H
Dairy Club, 4-H Dairy Goat
Club, and Kistler Clovers. She is
also a member of the County 4-H
Council and the West Perry
chapter of the National Honor
Society.
Amanda is also a dependable
part of the family’s Loysville
farm. She helps with the milking,
calf and heifer feeding, diagnos

and taking care of the goats.
During the pageant Amanda
presented a speech on the Three
a-Day program that is sponsored
by Dairy Promotion. She stressed
the importance of dairy products
in everyone’s daily nutrition.
The contestants also presented
dairy related skits. Amanda por
trayed a radio talk show host
who answered a variety of milk
related questions from, the Tooth
Fairy, Santa Clause, and the
Grim Reaper.
She finished the competition
with an impromptu question,
“How would you get more teen
agers to drink milk in school?”
Amanda was certain that having
ice cold milk in easy to handle
containers would make a big dif
ference.
Erica will be representing the
county as the Alternate Dairy
Princess for 2003-2004. Erica is
16 and will be a junior this fall at
West Perry High School.

She is active in the FFA, Kistl
,er Clovers, the 4-H Dairy Goat
and Dairy Clubs, as well as coun
ty 4-H council. She has been very
active in dairy judging, compet
ing at local, state, and regional
contests. Her keen eye for dairy
cattle has propelled her and her
team to the top of several con
tests.
The speech Erica gave during
the contest concerned the percep
tion of the dairy industry to those
who consume the products. She
stressed the importance of keep
ing the lines of communications
Interested In Joining An Herb Club?
YORK (York Co.) The
Mason-Dixon Unit of the Herb
Society of America is now being
organized. The objective of the
group will be to stimulate interest
in the knowledge and use of
herbs and to develop and main
tain educational and cultural
projects relating to herbs.

competition, Erica invited a few
of her childhood friends for a
“tea” party with milk. A doll and
several stuffed animals were in
attendance as she served up the
milk with important facts about
the nutrients in it.

question, Erica felt that advertis
