Enos Family, Rock wood, Takes Top Honors

The Somerset County Pro Sho
for the showing of sheep and
swine was conducted June 21
here at the Somerset County
Fairgrounds with more than 200
sheep and swine.
Molly Enos, 14, ninth-grader
at Rockwood Area High School
won overall champion and over
all reserve champion with her
lamb.
Her sister, Elle Enos, 9, won
homegrown champion during the
show. Molly and Elle are the
daughters of J.R. and Aimee
Enos of Rockwood and both are
members of High Ridge 4-H
Club, which also served as the
sponsor for the annual show. The
show was sanctioned by the
Pennsylvania Sheep and Wool
Junior Association. It is the 11th
year for the show. '
“I’ve been showing ever since I
was nine,” said Molly. “My mom

Greene County Youth Wins Somerset County Open Show

MEYERSDALE (Somerset
Co.) Sara Campbell, 17, of Sy
camore in Greene County won
supreme overall champion with
her heifer “MarabeH” during the
Somerset County Junior Open
Jackpot Steer Show here at the
Somerset County Fairgrounds
June 22.
There were 72 steers and 22
heifers entered. The show is
sponsored by the Somerset Coun
ty Beef Producers.
Sara’s parents are Jamie and
Jackie Campbell, and she has
been showing steers since she was
eight years old.
“It has taught me to be a more
responsible person and also how
to handle competition,” said
Campbell, who, along with her
parents, drove about two hours to
get to the show.

experience.”
Molly also owns three horses,
including a Thoroughbred mare
named “Buttercup” and a Welsh
pony and Welsh pony cross. She
shows with the Somerset County
Saddle Club and also shows in
Sewickley near Pittsburgh.
“I ride almost every day,” said
Molly, who thinks that she might
like horses some better than
sheep but loves all the animals on
her farm.
Lacey Murray, 15, a
lOth-grader at Meyersdale Area
High School won county bom
and raised grand champion and
reserve champion as well as re
serve homegrown champion. She
is the daughter of Cindy and Bob
Decker of Garrett.
This year’s show was judged
by Jason Bihl, Washington
Courthouse, Ohio. He works for
the Ohio Farm Bureau and was
graduated from Michigan State
University.
Campbell’s county fair is the
first week of August and she ex
plained that this competition
helps get her and her animal
used to the show ring.
“I’m in the barn most of my
day,” said Sara, a member of
Greene County 4-H Club. “When
I’m not in the bam, I’m asleep.”
Megan Fuls of Lebanon Coun
ty won overall champion for the
steers with her Angus crossbred
named “Major.” She is the
daughter of Kevin and Karen
Fuls and is a senior at Conrad
Weiser High School.
Megan has been showing at the
Somerset County show since she
was eight years old and follows in
the footsteps of her older siblings,
Justin, 20, and Heather, 22, who
both showed at the Somerset
County show.
“I put a few hours in every day
with my steer,” said Megan, who
is preparing for
her county fair
In the showmanship divisions,
Jason Knotts of Hyndman and
son of Annette and Don Knotts
won champion for the senior di
vision; Courtney Cowden, 13, of
Prosperity, daughter of Bruce
and Sandy Cowden, won inter
mediate division; and EHe Enos
of Rockwood won junior division.
The overall champion of the
swine show was Lexi Tabaj, 10,
daughter of John and Marcy
Tabaj of Mount Pleasant.
Jessica Brigich, 18, daughter of
Mark and Audra Brigich, Canon
sburg, won reserve champion.
Valerie Svonavec, 10, daughter of
Vince and Donna Svonavec,
Rockwood, won Somerset Coun
ty bom and raised champion. Re
serve champion went to Forrest
Ohler, 13, son of Scott and Lesa
Ohler, Rockwood.
Craig Sanner, 16, son of Ken
and Tracy Sanner, Markleton,
won homegrown champion, and
the reserve champion winner was
Andrew Flannery, 18, son of
Vince and Vicki Flannery, Sipes
ville.
The showmanship results for
swine are:
Senior Division - Hilty Will,
champion; and Jessica Brigich,
Canonsburg, reserve.
Intermediate Division - Lacey
Murray, Garrett; and Forrgst
Ohler, Rockwood, reserve.
Junior Division - Lexi Tabaj,
Mount Pleasant, champion; and
John Tabaj, Mount Pleasant, re
serve.

and Lacey Murray, Garrett, re
serve.
Middleweight Division - Dane

wood, reserve.

“The beef producers here in
our county promote the beef in
dustry and this money goes hack
into the kids,” explained Annette
Knotts of Hydman, who coordi
nates the show every year. “We
had steers from Pennsylvania,
West Virginia, and Maryland,
and this helps kids get experience
in showing and builds their confi
dence for the fair.”
Steve Ehman of Dacatur, Ind.,
served as the judge for this year’s
Jackpot Show.
