June 24,2003
Report Supplied By USDA
Trade sentiment was mixed, but mostly
steady. Retail demand was light to fair,
best for ads and seasonal interests. Food
service was fair to good, best into fast
food channels. In the East, heavier sizes
were in the closest position, and lighter
weights were ample; however, in all other
areas, smaller sizes were in a better bal
ance than the more available larger sizes.
In various locations, truck shortages con
tinued to affect deliveries. In the parts
structure, demand was light to fair, but
greatly improved where summer weather
replaced continuous rain and for in
creased holiday needs. Breast items were
better balanced to available and moving,
wings were adequate to ample, and dark
meat was in a good position and clearing.
In production areas, live supplies were
moderate at irregular weights.
The Composite Weighted Average
Price for 06/23/03
was 61.96, com
pared to 61.38 last
week, and 58.37 a
year ago.
