Jersey Cow From Oregon Breaks World Records CLOVERDALE, Ore. For the third time in four years, a new world record for milk production by a registered Jersey cow has been recorded by the American Jersey Cattle Association (AJCA). On May 9, Cottonwood Merry Violet completed a 365-day lactation of 44,120 pounds of milk, break ing the record set in 2001 by NormandeU Khan Ariel of 43,023 pounds of milk. The record is also the fourth time in AJCA production testing history that a Jersey has produced more than 40,000 pounds of milk in a single lactation. Violet also set a world record for cheddar cheese yield of 5,509 pounds, 539 pounds better than the previous mark. The complete lactation, begun at 6 years, 4 months of age, was 44,120 pounds of milk, 2,070 pounds of fat, and 1,593 pounds of protein. Based Since 1929, Mt. Joy has served the local Dairy Industry.
