D2-Lancaster Farming, Saturday,‘June 14, 2003 DES MOINES, lowa Dairy and beef producers now have a way to enhance the nutritional quality of corn silage and reduce the potential for heating during storage and in the bunk. By ap plying new Pioneer® brand 11C33 inoculant from Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., pro ducers can successfully enhance both aerobic stability and fer mentation of corn silage. Inoculant 11C33 is a unique blend of the company’s proprietary Lactobacillus plan tarum and Lactobacillus bu chneri bacterium strains. “11C33 combines several ben efits of using an inoculant in one product,” said Gene Gengel bach, inoculants product mana Dotlan Equipment, Inc 141 East Mam St Silverdale, PA 18962 215-257-5177 Thomas L. This in turn im proves aerobic stability to keep the silage fresher and cooler in storage and in the feed bunk.” “At the same time, this new inoculant speeds fermentation and lowers the pH more quickly to conserve the important sugars and starches in the silage,” Gen gelbach said. “The result is better quality, more nutritious, more palatable corn silage which can provide better animal performance.” Pioneer inoculant 11C33 is $ Pennsylvania Hines Equipment Stoltzfus RT 220, Belwood, PA 814-742-8171 Keller Brothers R 7 Box 405 Lebanon, PA 17042 717-949-6501 and 1950 Frultville Pike Lancaster, PA 17601 717-569-2500 Lehigh Ag Equipment, Inc. 6670 Ruppsville Rd , Allentown, PA 18106 610-398-2553 800-779-3616 Pikeville Warren County Equipment Inc. Gengelbach said research studies conducted by Pioneer microbiologists are criti cal in bringing in inoculant to the market, but the company wanted to take the testing pro cess a step further and involve producers who use inoculants in their operations. “Their input observations on how the product performed in ‘real world’ situations provided Pioneer valuable information on the product,” said Gengelbach. Silage samples were sent for analysis at harvest, 35 to 45 days post harvest and again at 90 days post harvest. Gengelbach adds that the on farm testing enabled Pioneer to test silage stored in various structures including bunkers, bags, towers, and piles, some thing that isn’t possible in stan dard research trials. Clair Hershey of Manheim, participated in the on-farm test ing and observed two major ben efits of the product quick fermentation and an increase in milk production. “We had a shortage of silage i HEDGE ■ \ TRIMMER p mx&m 24” j* \i 5 269 S 76 scc, 6 03 bhp, 14.5 lbs liicStiUl Available at these servicing dealers Ephrata Ronks WES STAUFFER A & B SALES ENGINES & EQUIPMENT & SERVICE 23 Pleasant Valley Rd. 370 Newport Road 717-738-4215 2 Miles South of Rt. 23 Along 772 Thru Monterey Abj MESSICK’S 7481 Lincoln Hwy.
