On May 21, Franklin County Society of Farm Women hosted the 38th Spring Rally, a statewide function with farm women from all over Pennsylvania. It was conducted at the Biestle Company in Shippensburg. The theme was United Are We in 2003. Members were en couraged to wear red, white, and blue. With 532 in attend ance that was estimated about one-quarter of our 2000 women membership in Penn sylvania. My granddaughter’s teacher asked her pupils to invite their grandmothers to tell about their youth. Apparently, I was the only one who responded. While the children sat on the floor in front of me, I sat in a big rocking chair and told them about my home life and going to school. Later someone told me that I ought to write those things down for our children. I went down a steep hill to a stream where the grandchildren found frogs and crayfish. The only trouble with that was that I had to climb the long, steep hill to get back to the car. So, I took a few rest stops as I’m not getting any younger. In fact, today is my birthday. The other day two big boxes arrived for my husband. Our daughter sent him large, perfect fruit in one box with cheese and mixed nuts. The other box had a round tin of unusual assorted candies. We’d never seen any of those kinds before. I’m sure that our children are concerned about us as they often telephone us. But, most of them live too far away to visit very often, so I write letters to them.
