Mostly prices were unchanged to high
er on whites, unchanged on sugar yolks,
irregular on whole, and lower on salt
yolks when compared to previous week’s
trading. Trade sentiment was about
steady to steady on yolks, usually steady
on whole and at least steady on whites.
Demand and trading improved but was
usually only fair. Offerings were generally
reported as tight on whites, in a better
balanced position on whole, and usually
sufficient on yolks. Liquid and frozen eggs
(ingredients included) processed under
federal inspection in the Eastern region
for the week ending 10 May 2003 were
6% higher than the previous week, but \ c h
less than a year ago.

Prices advanced 2 cents on heavier
weights and 1 cent on mediums. The mar
ket tone was fully steady. Demand was
mostly moderate to good. The New York
shell egg inventories decreased 1% when
compared to last Monday. Supplies were
sufficient for trade needs.

Trade sentiment was fully steady to
firm. Mid-week demand was lighter,
ranging fair to fairly good, best for retail
ads, fast food promotions, and into resort
locations. Supplies were adequate to well
cleared with smaller sizes tight in the
West. Plant schedules are mixed with
some Saturday kill planned and a few
down Monday for Memorial Day. In the
parts structure, trading was active to
moderate, but slowed where needs had
been met; availability was balanced to
well cleared and continued to move. In
production areas, live supplies were mod
erate at mostly desirable weights.

percent. Present week purchases for the
week ending May 16 were 207,746 cases
which was 5 percent below the prior week
and 6 percent below estimates.

up 13%; TOTAL: 207,746 down 3%.
Comparison figures are compiled on a
matched plant basis. Purchases and esti

The white meat undertone was steady
to instances weak. The slow white
meat market was starting to feel
some additional pressure for
prompt shipments due to the up
coming holiday weekend, how
ever, some isolated activity was
noted for post holiday needs.
White meat offerings adequate to
ample as some processors contin
ued to look for alternative uses for
their white meat. Frozen thigh
meat offerings ranged from short of
buyers’s needs for Russia to sometimes
ample for other destinations. Trading was
light on all items. Grade A non-basted
8-10 lb. breasts traded at 91 cents deliv
ered domestic.
