Mostly prices were unchanged to slight
ly lower on whole, lower on yolks, but
slightly higher on whites when compared
to previous week’s trading. The under
tone was irregular on whole, at best
steady on yolks, and fully steady on
whites. Demand ranged light to moder
ate. Offerings were adequate for current
trade requirements. Liquid and frozen
eggs (ingredients included) processed
under federal inspection in the Eastern
region for the week ending April 26, 2003
were 6% higher than last week, but 7%
lower than a year ago.

Trade sentiment was fully steady to
firm in the East, steady to fully steady
elsewhere. Demand was fair to good and
improved with strongest interest into fast
food and first of the month retail feature
activity. Supplies overall were in good
balance to at times closely cleared. In the
parts structure, trading was moderate to
active. Breast items were balanced to
short, wings were sufficient to close bal
anced, and leg quarters were in good bal
ance and clearing. In production areas,
live supplies were moderate with weights
in a full range of light to heavy but mostly
desirable.

Trucklot buying activity on ready-to
cook whole broiler/fryers was moderate as
increased seasonal demand coupled with
curtailed production schedules has moved
product into a tightly balanced position.
Offerings of all sizes were closely cleared
with premiums noted. Retail and distribu
tive movement was about fair to moder
ate. The market tone was fully steady to
firm.

week ending May 9 will increase by 0 per
cent. Present week purchases for the week
ending May 2 were 187,979 cases which
was 13 percent below the prior week and
13 percent below estimates.

down 17; TOTAL: 187,979 down 13%.
Comparison figures are compiled on a
matched plant basis. Purchases and esti

egg inventories increased 12 percent when

was moderate. Demand was moderate.
Live supplies were moderate for the mar
ket being reported with an estimated
slaughter of 1,346,000 compared to
1,323,000 last Tuesday. Weights were de
sirable. Processing schedules were moder
ate. Leg quarters are heavy and above av
erage for the market being reported
today.
Negotiated F. 0.8. dock prices, 2
pounds and heavier ice-packed broilers
and fryers, trucklot sales of US Grade A
or equivalent were steady at .49 - .62 per
pound; less than trucklot sales .50 - .65
per pound.
