Compared to Thursday, slaughter steers sold
steady on Monday as the bulk of the supply was
made up of average to light finished steers.
However, as the quality increased on Tuesday,
so did the bids, as prices were fully .50-1.00
higher. Receipts are once again starting to get
light, as around 380 head went in the books for
the two day run; with the lighter run probably
the mam contributor to the higher market on
the ISO head on Tuesday Holstein steers sold
mostly a full 1.00 higher on both days as there
continues to be a very well finished supply
available. The slaughter heifer runs both days
were too light to test. Slaughter cows sold weak
to a 1.00 lower, with even more pressure applied
to the Breaking cows as they trended as much
as 2.00 lower. The early week demand for the
fleshier types is just not as strong as the late
week demand, which is causing the cow market
to roller coaster from week to week. The two
day supply included 376 head of steers, 59 head
of heifers, 339 head of cows, 17 head of bulls,
with 408 head of feeder cattle. Note: Averages
expressed in the slaughter supply are from
Tuesday only.
