Selection Two and Three Kids sold 7.00-9.00
lower across the board on all weights. The Kid
supply was very heavy, with the best quality
coming through the ring early in the day. Many
producers are starting to bring the small goats
in trying to hit the Easter market, and are find
ing out quickly that the demand is there for the
Kids, but they have to be the kind. There was a
very heavy supply of Kids that were the right
weight, but they just did not have the meat
cover and therefore sold from 10.00-30.00 per
head. All other classes were not well tested
Monday, as they comprised a small percentage
of the run. Needless to say, a good majority of
the run was made up of Selection Three goats
as there was a noticeable decrease in quality. All
goats were sold by the head, with estimated
weights. Note: All prices and market trends are
made on the bulk of the run. However, any late
sales or trends will not be listed. Kids: Selection

Compared to Thursday, slaughter steers sold
firm to .50 higher in active trading, with de
mand good bom packer and kosher buyers
alike. The quality of the run was very good,
with steer receipts for the two-day run nearly
reaching 600 head. Many producers are putting
their steers on a truck headed to town no matter
how long they have been on feed as they try to
get in on the current hot market, and there was
definitely some short-fed,calf headed steers on
offer both days; although buyers were not shy
ing away bom them too much. Another notice
able difference is the weights; the cattle that
usually weigh 1400 lbs are weighing 1200, al
though they still have enough finish to go in the
Choice pen. Slaughter Holstein steers sold fully
1.00-2.00 higher, and demand was very good as
buyers used some of the spotted stock to take
some of the sting out of their colored loads that
were averaging over 80.00. Slaughter heifers
were not well tested due to the light numbers,
although a firmer undertone was noted. Break
ing and Boning cows sold firm to a 1.00 higher,
with the Lean cow supply trading billy 1.00

number of cows coming into the Lancaster

little as farmers are looking to turn their cows
out on grass instead of sending them to town.
Light receipts could have been one of the largest
reasons cows were higher Tuesday, as demand
remains about moderate to good. There were
not enough slaughter bulls to fully test the mar
ket. The supply included around 60 percent
steera (586 head), S percent heifers (49 head), 31
percent cows (297 head), 1 percent bulls (14
head), with the balance of the two day run
made up of a few feeder cattle. Note: There will
be a special feeder cattle sale held at the Vin

Compared to Tuesday's active market,
slaughter steers sold steady to weak. The quali
ty of the run was average to good, with bidding
moderately active for the duration of the sale.
Even though the market was not higher, very
few producers arc complaining about the cur
rent 80.00 value of a well-finished Choice steer.
The boxed beef market and the Western trade
were both very bullish this week, with most
local feeders expecting area packers to throw
even more fuel on the already hot finished mar
ket. However, even with the Western trade at
80.00-81.00, and boxed beef values over 4.00
higher through Thursday, prices were not able
to break steady. The slaughter Holstein steers
and slaughter heifers that were comparable to
the early week run sold near steady, with some
weakness noted at tiroes in the Choice supply.
Slaughter bulls sold with a higher undertone on
a very good run The reported supply included
47 percent steers (658 head), 7 percent heifers
(89 head), 37 percent cows (520 head), 5 percent
