inexpensive and the loss of one lamb or kid to enter
toxemia could buy many doses of vaccine.
Finally, the question of whether to wean or not to
wean before marketing lambs or kids is important.
Major buyers recognize whether a lamb or kids is
“fresh” or not. In the best case scenario, babies go
directly from their mother to the buyer.
Weaning is an added stress to animals and it
takes several days to a couple of weeks to get them
through the weaning period. They lose their bloom
or freshness quickly when they are weaned.
Of course they regain some of that once they are
through the weaning period.
Attached is a calendar with many holidays listed
where sheep and goats are in demand. And in addi
tion to these ethnic and religious holidays, our
American type holidays such as Mother’s Day, Fa
ther’s Day, Memorial Day, and the Fourth of July
create demand for goats and lambs among many
cultures.
