Livestock Evaluation Center Announces Bull Test Results
STATE COLLEGE (Centre
Co.) The Pennsylvania Depart
ment ot Agriculture's I ivestock
Evaluation Center has an
nounced the final results for
Pennsylvania's Bull Testing Pro
gram.
The group of bulls that have
completed the testing program
consist of 39 Angus (5 of which
are Red), 24 Simmentals, 6 Here
fords, 4 Charolais, 1 Limousin
and 1 Shorthorn.
Through 112 days the 39
Angus bulls have maintained an
average daily gain of 4.01 pounds
per day with a lifetime weight per
day of age of 3.37 per day.
The top-gaining bull is an
Angus bull, an Ankonian Elixir
100 son consigned by Joe and
Bobbi McMullen, which gained
5.30 pounds per day and has
maintained a lifetime weight per
day of age of 3.88 pounds per
day.
The second fastest-gaining bull
of the Angus breed is the
WVFHB Atlantic National Merit
son consigned by Weaverland
Valley Farms, which gained 5.01
pounds per day on test.
The 24 Simmentals have a
breed average daily gain of 3.71
pounds per day on test, and a
lifetime wt. per day of age of 3.46
pounds per day.
The top-gaining Simmental
bull, a son of STF Added Dimen
sions consigned by Jack Herr has
gained 4.74 pounds per day, with
the second fastest gaining Sim
mental bull from James Cowell
Jr., with an average daily gain of
4.60 pounds per day.
This year, there are six Here
fords on test which have gained,
on average. 3.44 pounds per day.
The top-gaining Hereford is con
signed by Eugene Sapp.
The top Charolais bull, con-
signed by Ray Bratton,
has gained 4.35 pounds
per day on test and has

The bulls were weighed off test
February 18, and have had their
final average daily gains and life
time weight per day of ages cal
culated. The bulls have also been
scanned ultrasonically to obtain
fat thickness and loin-eye areas.
Adjusted yearling weights and
final index ratios were derived
from gained data. All bulls have
undergone a comprehensive
breeding soundness exam, includ
ing a semen evaluation.

bulls to offer in Pennsylvania's
30th Performance tested bull
sale, March 28 at 11 a.m.
The bull sale on March 28 will
be followed by the annual Penn
sylvania Simmental Female Sale.
