PCA Banquet Scheduled
STATE COLLEGE, (Centre
Co.) The Pennsylvania Cattle
men’s Association (PCA) awards
banquet has been scheduled for
Thursday, March 27, at Cele
brations Hall, near the Nittany
Mall, State College.
The festivities will begin with a
social hour at 6 p.m., followed by
a prime rib dinner at 7 p.m. Cat
tle producers will be recognized
during this special evening for
several awards including the In
dustry Service Award, Commer-
cial Cattleman, Seedstock Breed
er, and Cattle Feeder of the Year.
Producers will also be recognized
with the Environmental Steward
ship Award for their dedication
to preserving agriculture and the
environment for future
generations.
In addition, the 2003 Cattle
men’s Beef Ambassadors will be
announced and three schol
arships for college undergradu
ates will be presented. There will
also be special award presenta-
dons by organizations affiliated
with PCA.

trade show, performance

female sales, and several
junior events including the
beef skill-a-thon, beef quiz
bowl, junior heifer and
steer shows

2003 Summer Cattlemen’s
ELIZABETHTOWN (Lancaster Co.) The 2003 Summer Cattle
men’s Field Day is scheduled for Saturday, July 19, with the main lo
cation at EM-TRAN, Elizabethtown, with tours later in the day of the
Dwight Hess feedlot, and Donegal Stream where there are unique en
vironmentally-fr endly enhancements to stream bank and related im
provements.
The field day presentations will include some of the technological
advances in practicing artificial insemination and embryo transfer in
both beef and dairy cattle, and will emphasize some of the improve
ments in synchronizing and detecting estrus. Cyagra, the parent com
pany of EM-TRAN, is also internationally known for livestock cloning
and preservation. The latter topics will be discussed and demonstrated
via video recording.
The tentative program includes information on legislative/
regulatory issues, new estrous detection methods, ova transfer, and
the reason, bioethics, and methods of farm animal cloning.
Cloning benefits and risks will be addressed. The day is co-spon
sored by the Pennsylvania Cattlemen's Association, Pennsylvania.
Angus Association, and the Pennsylvania Grazing Lands Coalition.
