fully steady, with all other grades trading steady to weak You will notice the prices quoted below are around a full 1 00 higher than last week's Thursday run hut they were only stead) with Tuesday as buyers put the 1 00 New Holland lost last week on this week s Monday and Tuesday runs There was not a good sup ply of high Choice and Prime stock on hand and the few on offer were weighing up pretty full Buyers look ing for the quality steers had their hands tied, although they were able to resort to a surprisingly large, and well finished, heifer supply to fill loads The low Choice and Select buyers were able to step in and at times put a little spark in the trade, although it was only short lived as most bids failed to match the early week runs The Western direct feed yards were moving their live steers 1 00-2 00 higher as of Thursday at 78 00 in Texas and from 78 00-78 SO in Kansas and Nebraska This weeks cash trade holds around a 400 premium to the April live cattle contract at the Merc, which closed at 74 85 on Thursday, and no one is tak ing their eyes off of the bearish June contract which is sitting around 6800 (a full 1000 discount to the cur rent cash trade) The Choice Slaughter Holstein steer supply sold as much as 1 00 higher, with not enough high quality spotted stock available early in the week to test the top end of the market Trading was very ac tive on the Holstems, as a few buyers turned to owning them over the colored cattle as they carried some pret ty good finish As mentioned above, the slaughter heif er supply saw a surprising influx in receipts as nearly 140 head went through the ring There were not near the heifer numbers early in the week to compare to, but a firmer undertone was definitely noted Breaking and Boning cows managed to hold near steady with only instances of weakness noted However, the Lean cow supply did not have the same buyer support as the fleshier cows received as they trended a full 1 00-2 00 lower Buyer attendance was good for the fleshier types, but lighter than normal for the Lean cows It does not help the lean cow market when the cutter cow carcass cutout value losses over 4 00 over the past two days either The early week bull run was made up of mostly full stock, therefore the Thursday run was not comparable, there was a weaker undertone noted when compared to last week's run The reported supplv included 29 percent steers (564 head), 11 per «.ent hufers (158 head) 46 percent lows (SKI head). 6 percent hulls (74 head) with the balance feeder cattle SI AUOHTER STEERS light supply of High Choice and Prime
