Little Rascals 4-H Club Competes in State Convention NAZARETH (Northampton Co.) The Little Rascals North ampton County 4-H club partici pated in the Pennsylvania State Rabbit Breeders Show and Con vention which took place at the Lebanon Valley Fairgrounds. 4-H members Lora Derbyshire, Sara Plokhooy, Kelsey Groff, and Kel sey Plokhooy competed in the event on February 1. Northampton County 4-H member, Sara Plokhooy, placed first in the Rabbit Judging Con test, which was part of the Penn sylvania State Rabbit Breeders Convention. The contest was open to all ages. Sara competed with six other 0 4-H HAPPENINGS Lancaster County 4-H Sheep Club Reorganizing Youth who are interested in feeding market lambs or raising breeding sheep are invited to at tend the reorganizational meet ing of the Lancaster County 4-H Woolies Club at 7 p.m. on Mon day, March 17 at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster. Election of officers and distri bution of project books will high light the meeting activities. To be eligible for membership in the club, members must be be tween the ages of 8 and 18 before January 1, 2003 regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, or handicap. They have the re- youth in the 9-12 year old class. While judging, contestants look for a compact body with balanc ing depth and width, an animal which is very plump and full over and around the hips, an animal where the size of the head, ears and bones are in proportion to the rest of the body, and an ani mal which is full and meaty. Other characteristics to look for include; a well shaped, well-filled face and jaws which are set on a short neck, and an animal which carries their ears erect are well furred. Using these criteria, Sara did a wonderful job using deci sion making skills to place the animals. sponsibility of caring for and feeding their own sheep and keeping records on their lambs. They also have the opportunity of showing tneir lambs at the 4-H Fair or at community farm shows. Conodoguinet 4-H Sheep Club The Conodoguinet 4-H Sheep Club met on Feb. 20 at the exten sion office. President Austin Durf called the meeting to order. Jea nette Bouch led the members in the American pledge and Caleb Northampton County 4-H members, from left, Lora Derbyshire, Sara Plokhooy, Kelsey Groff, and Kelsey Plokhooy participated in the Pennsylvania State Rabbit Breeders Show and Convention Feb. 1. Sara placed first in the rabbit judging contest. Burkholder led the members in the 4-H pledge. The secretary and treasurer’s report was ap proved as read. A community service report was given. Ethel Myers reported to the club that we donated money to Warm the Children and Jeanette Bouch told of a Christmas program that she helped by donating a sheep. New Members Katie Walker, Greg Crum, and Brian Nailor, were introduced to the club. Under old business, a report Lancaster Farming, Saturday, March 15, 2003-813 was given on the 4-H achievement banquet, the live stock banquet, a Farm Show re port, and the club members re ceived their books back from last year. Under new business, each club member had to fill out a medical form and a 4-H code of conduct. We also discussed on some pro gram ideas and locations for the upcoming year. The following officers were elected: president Brian Nailor; vice president Austin Durf; secretary Katie McCorriston; assistant secretary Katie Walk er; treasurer Jake Zeigler; news reporter Jamie Gaughan; social chairperson Chase Bough; and youth council repre sentive Cody Bough. The next meeting will be on March 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Newville Hardware and Feed.
