The STREAM MAP OF OHIO
resembles another map-known to
Pennsylvania anglers as the “Lost
Stream Map ”
The “Stream Map of
Pennsylvania” was completed in
1965 after a 30 year effort by
Howard Higbee, a former Penn State
Professor
Professor Higbee succeeded in
creating a map of the highest detail
possible a map that shows every
stream and lake He painstakingly
plotted by hand, the location of
45,000 miles of streams onto a
3 by 5 foot map
The map sold extremely well -
until it was lost several years later
Incredibly, the printer entrusted with
the original drawing and printing
plates declared bankruptcy, then
carelessly hauled Higbee’s 30 years
of work to the landfill
The few remaining dog-eared
copies became a prized fisherman’s
possession. Professor Higbee was
offered $4OO for one of his last
maps And state agencies were
forced to keep their copies under
lock and key
The experts had always told
Professor Higbee that reprints were
impossible, because the maps were
printed in non-photographic blue
Then, in 1991, at the age of 91,
Howard Higbee's dream came true
Computers made it possible to
reprint the map Holding an updated
map, Howard said, “I never thought
I’d live to see this day ”
Then, by combining Professor
Higbee’s knowledge with computer
technology - the STREAM MAP OF
OHIO was created
The high gloss of silicone
makes this bakeware inherently
non-stick, allows quick release of
baked goods, which encourages
low-fat baking. However, if a rec
ipe includes pan preparation of
greasing and flouring, it should
be followed. Silicone provides
freezer to oven temperature use,
with excellent heat distribution
for even baking and quick cool
down for easy handling. It can be
used for molded ice cream des
serts, oven baked goods, and is
may serve on the court as dairy
maids. Dairy Miss and Little
Dairy Miss contestants must be
between the ages of 5 and 11.
Dairy Princess and Dairy Am
bassador contestants are required
to give a speech and present a
skit at the coronation. Dairy
maids are required to prepare
and present an informational
poster. Dairy Miss and Little
Dairy Miss contestants must pre
pare and present an original
poem.

also serviceable in the micro
wave. It will not retain odors or
flavors, is easy to clean, and dish
washer safe. Most silicone bake
ware requires it be used on a stur
dy baking sheet, however some
brands have built in structural

come with a metal rack. Silicone
bakeware items cost between
$lO-$2O.
You’ll also find colorful sili

Ida’s
Notebook
Ida Risser
The middle of March and often I would have my sugar peas
planted by this time. But, this year I live here alone waiting for
my husband to come home from his weeks in the hospital. I’m
certainly glad that I have a braided rug to keep me busy.
I’ve been reading my 1966 diary when all of our six children
were at home. Our oldest was a senior in high school and our
youngest was two years old. We were amazed that she could read
at that age when many children are only learning to talk.
It almost makes me tired to simply sit and read of the many ac
tivities our children participated in at that time. One was in a
play at school and one was in the orchestra. Another tutored sev
eral students all over the county. The older ones regularly babysat
for neighbors. And, I was chauffeur for a carload of kindergart
ners. They had to be hauled to and from school, which was quite
a chore.
At this time in March 1966, my husband was spending all his
days helping his father prepare for a farm sale instead of working
at home. Even our oldest boys were expected to help prepare the
cows and machinery for sale. On top of all this activity there were
evening meetings to attend.
Through all pf this bustle we managed to eat
together. All of our children learned to cook
and bake as they certainly liked to eat. They all
had chores at the barn too. It was at this time
that a big heifer pulled our son abng the
ground and he had to get 10 stitches in his
head and forfeit a wrestling championship at
school.
Sometimes I am amazed at all of the things
that we as parents lived through. And now, our
children are doing the same with their chil
dren.
