THIS WEEK
I AST WEEK
I AST YEAR
Compared to last week, slaughter steers sold
1 00 higher at the two early week runs, with
steers trading a full 1 00 lower late in the week
Ihe early week sales included a couple pretty
good runs, with trading moderately active
However, the 1 00 higher market early in the
week was compared to a sharply lower Thurs
day market the prior week The quality of the
stock has tapered off over the past couple of
weeks with buyers trying to own high Choice
and Prime steers noting having a lot of luck
The Western direct feedlots moved their steers
from 76.00 to mostly 77 00 this week, which is
mostly steady to 1 00 lower This can be consid
ered a moral victory for Western feeders as the
early week sales of 74 50-75 50 made it look like
the trade would be lower The Board was very
helpful to the direct trade this week, after trad
ing lower most of the week the April live cattle
contract moved up 1.10 on Thursday to close at
74 25 Most local feeders are watching the sum
met contracts at the Merc very closely as they
are currently sitting around 67 00-69 00, which
would be a shock for the cash trade to dip to
those levels as producers have come accustomed
