Weekly Meat Production Under Federal Inspection
WASHINGTON, D C , Mar. 7 - (USDA-NASS) - Total red meat pro
duction under federal inspection for the week ending Saturday, March
8, was estimated at 867 7 million lb, according to the USDA's
Agricultural Marketing Service This was slightly lower than a week
ago and 1 2% higher than a year ago Cumulative meat production for
the yeai to date was 0 8% lower compared to the previous year

YARDS, Weekly Cattle Summary
Compared to last week: Feeder steers and
heifers steady to 1.00 lower. Demand fair
ly good for feeders. Stocker steers and
steer calves firm to 2.00 higher. Stocker
heifers and heifer calves steady. Demand
again very good for grass cattle. In con
trast to the past two years, trucks are
readily available in the middle of a busy
March wheat run. Though auction re
ceipts across the state are large less con
tract cattle are being picked up. Another
large run expected next week. Quality av
erage. Feeder cattle in medium to mostly
fleshy conditions; Stockers and calves in
thin to medium flesh. Total of 390 cows
and bulls sold with 52 percent going to
packers. Receipts this week 15,230; last
week 10,819; last year 17,444. Supply con
sisted of 84% yearlings over 600 lbs; 13%
calves; 3% cows and bulls. Heifers com
prised 35% of feeder & calf supply.

weight and price in parenthesis.
