Compared Thursday's very large run
and active market. Lean slaughter cows
sold steady to weak; with fleshier (70-80
percent lean) cows trading as much as
1.00 lower Buyer attendance was very
good on Thursday with excellent demand
for the Breakers and Boners. However,
the demand faltered somewhat on Mon
day as buyers were not chasing after the
bigger cows near as hard. Slaughter bulls
sold mostly 1.00-2.00 higher, with excel
lent demand noted on the high dressers.
The supply was made up of nearly 62 per
cent slaughter cows.

Compared to Thursday, slaughter
steers sold weak to .50 lower with in
stances up to 1.00 lower. However, a good
majority of the supply was weighing up
on the full side, and when you take the fill
and the mud hanging on their bellies into
consideration prices didn't seem drastical
ly lower in the meat. The overall quality
of the run was about average, with the
buyers trying to put some high Choice
and Prime steers on their trucks having a
tough go of it. One thing that did increase
early in the week was the receipts, with
over 470 head of slaughter steers in the
books for the combined Monday and
Tuesday run. The Holstein steers and
slaughter heifers that were comparable to
Thursday's run sold with a weaker under
tone. The cow carcass cutout value was
1.28 higher on Monday, which added
some support to the Tuesday cow run; al
though even with the Tuesday run trend
ing firmer than Monday, prices still failed
to compete with Thursday's very active
market. Compared to Thursday, all class
es of slaughter cows sold 50-1.00 lower,
with most of the decrease noted on the
Breaking and Boning cow supply. Slaugh
ter bulls sold near steady on a light run

Combine the outside pressure with some lower
quality stock on offer, and not a lot of people
were too surprised by the lower prices I guess
we all knew it was coming, it just takes a while
to accept it as most producers have become ac
