St. Joseph, Mo.
March 4,2003
Report Supplied By USDA
CORN BELT FEEDSTUFF: Feedstuff
prices were mixed for the week across the

good demand for Millfeeds. Much of the

For the most part, milk production in
the Eastern part of the country is holding
steady, although some handlers are re
porting slight increases in receipts at the
plant. In the Mid-Atlantic and New Eng
land areas, adverse weather conditions
continue to impact milk logistics. Al
though snow has fallen during the past
week, conditions were no where close to
conditions of a few weeks ago. Bottlers in
dicated that typical runs on milk, due to
poor weather predictions, at the retail
store did clear heavy volumes of milk
which caused some bottling operations to
realign bottling schedules. With the in
creased demand for Class I milk, in in
stances, milk was not as available as some
users required, thus they were out looking
for additional milk to maintain their pro
duction schedules.
In the Southeast, especially Florida and
Gulf Coastal states, milk production is re
ported to be showing signs of seasonal in
creases. Bottling plants in Florida were
full to the point that 52 loads of milk did
move out of state into manufacturing
plants within the Southeast. Not only in
the Southeast, but throughout the Eastern
part of the country, bottlers will be align
ing schedules during the next 4 - 8 weeks
to accommodate spring breaks for
schools. Bottlers anticipate that condi
tions might not be as hectic in the North
east as in past years due to many schools

having to use spring break days in recent
weeks due to adverse weather conditions.
Cream markets are generally steady,
although prices did firm slightly due to a
slightly stronger base price. Pricing multi
ples held basically unchanged. Cream
supplies were reported to be in good de
mand as Class II operations, especially ice
cream producers, were gearing up pro
duction schedules. Seasonal Passover and
Lenten cream based product production
is also increasing. Some butter producers
were also looking for additional cream
volumes to maintain full production
schedules
Condensed skim markets are generally
steady at unchanged prices, although
prices did firm within the reported rang
es Demand is steady at slow levels.
