Antique engines and locomotives were the hot items when Kruse International auctioned off the holdings of the Sigmon Museum Closeout Auction in New ton, North Carolina on February 8-9. As the complete closeout of a lifelong collection, the event was expected to be one of the area’s largest auctions of the year, with thousands of items crossing the auction block at no reserve. Items available included steam engines, hit and miss engines, antique farm equipment, collector cars, car riages, furniture, amusement rides, and many more collecti bles. One of the standout items in the sale is the fa mous Lansing Double Traction, the world’s oldest 4-wheel drive. Out of three prototypes, it is the only surviving one. It sold for $30,000. The item that drew the highest bid was a States ville 4x6x2 grand scale train steam locomotive that is fully operational and includes the engine tender car and the passenger car. The winning bid for the locomotive was $38,000. Other interesting items sold included the follow ing: Mogul 4-horsepower screen cooled stationary en gine for $16,000; miniature gas-powered train mod eled after the F-7 General Motors diesel locomotive.
