Trade sentiment was fully steady in the
West, steady in the Midwest, and about
steady in the East. Retail demand was
slow to fair with limited features. Food
service covered the full range with strong
est interest into fast food and sports bars
in the Midwest; however interest in that
region was also being affected by winter
weather. Supplies varied by size and re
gion, but were overall available if needed.
In the parts structure, trading was slow to
fair with regular commitments usually
sufficient for needs. Boneless skinless
breasts were in good balance and clearing
well, along with leg quarters, and the re
maining items were at least adequate or
available. In production areas, live sup
plies were moderate. Weights were desira
ble to heavy, mostly desirable.
The 12-City Weighted Average Price
for 02‘/i4/03 was 60.38, compared to 60.26
last week, and 56.06 a year ago.

Trucklot buying activity was mostly
light and unaggressive during midweek
trading as the lackluster demand war
ranted a cautious and selective posture.
Offerings of bone-in breasts were ample
and sharply discounted to stimulate inter
est. In contrast, boneless skinless breasts
ranged balanced to adequate. Dark meat
cuts were at least sufficient. Wings re
mained readily available. Retail and dis
tributive movement was limited. The
market tone was weak on bone-in breasts
and wings, at least steady on boneless
skinless breasts and about steady on the
balance.

Mostly prices were higher on whites,
unchanged on whole, and lower on yolks
when compared to previous week’s trad
ing. The market tone remained firm on
whites, mixed but generally steady on
whole, and barely steady to weak on
yolks. Demand was light to moderate
with supplies ranging from short to fully
adeqaute for current trade needs. Liquid
and frozen eggs (ingredients included)
processed under federal inspection in the
Eastern region for the week ending Feb
ruary 15, 2003 were 6% less than the pre
vious week, but 4% more than a year ago.
