Holstein members were honored
with the Progressive Breeder
Registry Award at the recent
2003 Pennsylvania Holstein Con
vention at the Holiday Inn, Beth
lehem.
The awards are bestowed on
breeders whose herds exceed na
tional standards for type classifi
cation and production.
Holstein Tour March 14
WEST CHESTER (Chester
Co.) The Chester County Hol
stein Club has planned a tour
Friday, March 14 to Lebanon
County.
The group will have several de
parture places this year. These
places include the Sam Stoltzfus
Farm of Parkesburg at 7:40 a.m.
and the parking lot in back of the
Burger King at Morgantown at 8
a.m.
Cost is $l5 and you are to
bring a packed lunch. Supper will
be provided.
The tour includes farms such
as Scott and Karen Nolt. This
family farm features two tiestall
barns. One barn uses sand for
bedding and the other barn has
matresses.
The 180 cows average 30,800
pounds of milk and boast a BAA
of 108 percent.
The Brandt Family farm has a
herd of 100 cows with an average
of 31,500 pounds of milk, 1,219
pounds of fat, and 957 pounds of

has a herd of 50 cows with a herd
average of 22,000 pounds of milk,
881 pounds of fat, and 715
pounds of protein. This farm sells
several animals a year and has a
BAA of 108.6 percent. Of the 50
cows, 35 of them are daughters of
Excellent dams.
The Bruce Bollinger farm has
a tiestall setup of good, fancy
cows. This farm has a herd aver
age of 25,000 pounds of milk and
features a BAA of 105 percent.
