Trade sentiment was mixed, overall no
better than steady. Retail demand was
light to fairly good where featured with
optimism still present for late week. Food
service covered the full range with most
interest into fast food for specials. Sup
plies of all sizes were at least adequate to
available for trade needs. In the parts
structure, trading was light and cautious
and often being limited to immediate
needs. Breast items became increasingly
available with discounts reported, dark
meat and wings were at least adequate. In
production areas, live supplies were mod
erate at weights in a full range.
The 12-City Weighted Average Price
for 02/03/03 was 60.49, compared to 60.13
last week, and 55.67 a year ago.

In New York and Chicago, prices de
clined on all sizes. Prices in all other areas
were unchanged, however all sizes were
trending lower. The market tone was
mostly weak. Demand was slow to mod
erate at best, with the most interest cen
tered around feature activity. Supplies
were in close balance to ample for current
trade needs. Breaking stock offerings
were fully sufficient to close for the light
to moderate demand. Light type fowl
were at least adequate to fully adequate
for the fair demand.

Prices declined 3 cents on all sizes. The
market tone was weak. Retail demand
was light to moderate, best where scat
tered features were a factor. The New
York shell egg inventory increased 11%
and the New Jersey shell egg inventory
was 15% more than last week. Supplies
were available for present trade require
ments.

Mostly prices were higher on whole and
whites, unchanged to lower on sugar
yolks, and irregular on salt yolks when
compared to previous week’s trading. The
market tone was mixed as sellers continue
to evaluate raw costs and a unsettled shell
egg market. Demand was light to moder
ate. Supplies were generally adequate for
current trade needs. Liquid and frozen
eggs (ingredients included) processed
under federal inspection in the Eastern
region for the week ending January 2S,
2003 were 12% less than the previous
week, and 4% lower than a year ago.
