    PYFA Gathers For Conference In Lewisburg This Week

LEWISBURG (Union Co.)
Mifflinburg and Lewisburg chap
ters hosted the 43rd annual con
vention of the Pennsylvania
Young Farmers’ Association
(PYFA) conducted this week in
Lewisburg.
The three-day event included
tours, meetings, a spokesperson
contest, exhibits, entertainment,
an ice cream social, and educa
tional workshops.

This year’s outstanding Young Farmer Chapter Award went to the Solanco Young
Farmer Chapter.

During the banquet, Sam and
Anna Mary Click, Quarryville,
won the Outstanding Community
Service Award for Pennsylvania.
The couple represent the Solanco
Chapter in the eastern region.
Sam is president of Maplehofe
Inc., a family corporation that in
cludes hay and crops, a 110-cow
dairy, 28,000 chickens, organic
eggs, a hog finishing business,
and direct sales in the farm’s
store. Anna Mary is the principal
bookkeeper for the couple’s en
terprises.
Other candidates for the award
were Dan and Laurel Wilkinson,
from the Gettysburg chapter in
the south central region.
The couple, who in partnership
with Dan’s father and brother,
operate Getty Acres Farm, a
3,600 acre and 200-head dairy
farm. The Wilkinsons are joined
by children Kendall and Ty.
Brian Kreider, a member of
the Cedar Crest Chapter, Leba
non County, won the Outstand
ing Young Farmer Under 30
Award. Kreider operates, with
his parents, a beef and crop farm.
