mixed as well, although mostly steady. Wethers
sold 1 00 to 600 higher in active trading. The
quality of the entire run was very mixed, with
mostly lower quality goats on offer However,
due to the light receipts, buyers had no choice
but to procure the lesser quality stock to try and
fill their orders. All goats are sold on a per head

THURSDAY
LAST WEEK
LAST YEAR
Compared to Tuesday, slaughter steers sold
fully .50-1.00 higher. Bidding started off a little
slow, but once the good ones started coming in
trading was very active. There were some very
nice quality steers on offer, with buyer interest
very good. The bullish February live cattle fu
tures contract remains around the magical
80.00 mark, which is very farmer fnendly The
Western feed yards have moved a few pens
from 78.00-79 00 as of Thursday evening, which
is a full 1.00 lower than last week. However,
here in Lancaster County prices have held up
very well, and the market definitely seems to
have some fire left in it. A very fancy supply of
slaughter heifers went untested due to Tues
day's very light run Although, there was defi
nitely a higher undertone noted. Most Holstein
feeders went to pick their check up with a smile
on there face as well, as prices for the top quali
ty steers ranged from 63.00-68.00, which is also
much firmer that Tuesday’s light test There
was quite a noticeable increase in both Holstein
numbers and quality Slaughter cows sold fully
100-3.00 higher in very active bidding, and
good buyer attendance; and it was not like there
was a shortage in numbers as nearly 500 head
went through the ring Cow carcass cutout val
ues are up slightly, but not enough to justify the
advances in Thursday’s market Slaughter bulls
were 2.00-3.00 higher when compared to the
light Tuesday test The supply included 34 per
cent steers, 6 percent heifers, 44 percent cows, 5
percent bulls, with the balance feeders
