National Slaughter Cattle
Weekly Review
Slaughter cattle traded 1.00-2.00 high
er this week with good demand from
packers. Trade only moderate in the
north as a major winter storm slowed
progress. Another major cold front is ex
pected to move in next week and could
have a hand in the declining slaughter
weights. Show lists are still fairly short in
the south but remain even in the north.
Boxed beef prices jumped in light of the
reduced kills to advance over 13.00 since
the first of the year. USDA’s boxed beef
cut-out values Friday morning averaged
132.33 up 6.68 from last Friday. Sales of
slaughter cattle on a national basis for
negotiated cash trades were 165,900
through 10:00 a.m. Friday. Last week’s
full count was 228,800.
