Trade sentiment was mostly steady, but
barely steady to weak in the East. De
mand into retail was slow to fair and de
clined in many areas; food service was ir
regular, mostly moderate at best. Supplies
were at least adequate for limited trade
needs. In the parts structure, wings were
sufficient to close and moving, and dark
meat was readily available. Breast items
were fully adequate to ample for boneless
skinless, closer balanced to short for bone
in. In production areas, live supplies were
moderate at weights in a full range, but
mostly desirable.
The 12-CITY Weighted Average Price
for 01/13/03 was 61.89, compared to 61.08
last week, and 57.56 a year ago.

and salt yolks, unchanged to lower on
sugar yolks, but unchanged to slightly
higher on whites when compared to previ
ous week’s trading. The market tone was
cautiously steady to barely steady. De
mand improved in some areas and ranged
light to mostly moderate. Supplies were
generally adequate for current trade re
quirements. Liquid and frozen eggs (in
gredients included) processed under fed
eral inspection in the Eastern region for
the week ending January 04, 2003 were
11% more than the previous week, and
9% higher than a year ago.

The market tone was firm. Demand was
moderate to good. The New York shell
egg inventory was 10 percent more than
last Monday, however, the New Jersey
shell egg inventory was 14 percent less
than the previous week. Supplies were

quirements.

fair and noted as typical for mid-week
trading as dealers generally limited orders
to previously committed product. Offer
ings of bone-in breasts were in close bal
ance to tight and well cleared. Wings
were in good balance to short. Boneless

meat cuts were more than sufficient. Re
tail and distributive movement was fair to
moderate and centered on scattered retail
feature activity. The market tone was

Movement of ready-to-cook whole birds
was moderate and clearing the market at
a reasonable rate. Demand was moderate
with buyer interest and trading. Live sup
plies was moderate for the market being
reported with an estimated slaughter of
1,291,000 compared to 1,201,000 last
Tuesday. Weights were desirable to
heavy. Processing schedules were moder
ate. Actual slaughter for the week of 1/
6-1/11/2003 was 6,335,938 head with an
average weight of 4.96. Supply of wings
were moderate while demand was good
and trading more active than normal for
the market being reported.
Negotiated F. 0.8. dock prices, 2
pounds and heavier ice-packed broilers
and fryers, trucklot sales of US Grade A
or equivalent were steady to lower at 56 -
.69 per pound; less than trucklot sales .58
