Champions supplied the initial
scholarship money. A portion of
the proceeds from each year’s
sale is donated to the fund. The
non-profit Farm Show Schol
arship Foundation oversees the
fund, administering contributions
and distributing scholarships.
Including this year, $235,500
have been awarded to 154 indi
viduals. In addition to handling
the scholarship program, the
scholarship foundation has cre
ated an Ambassadors Club, a
non-profit, tax-exempt organiza
tion designed to increase schol
arship funds for rural youth.
This year’s Farm Show schol

the Twentieth Annual Agricultural Seminar to be held February 5,2003 at the
Blue Ball Fire Hall beginning at 9:45 a.m.
This year's speakers include: Mr. Glenn A. Shirk, Retired Lancaster County
Dairy Agent; Mr. Chuck F. Few, Trust Development Officer, Certified Financial
Planner, Blue Ball National Bank; Mr. Robert Ruth, President, Country View
Family Farms; Prof. Kenneth W. Bailey, Professor of Agricultural Economics,
Penn State University; Prof. H. Louis Moore, Professor of Agricultural
Economics, Penn State University.
The bank will provide lunch. Because of limited space, we can only
accommodate those persons who return the coupon at the bottom of this
announcement on or before January 24,2003. Reservations will be taken on

• Beth Baer, the daughter of
Brian and Ruth Baer, hails from
Glenville in York County. She is
currently a freshman at York
College, majoring in Business
Marketing. Beth was a member
of the York County Beef Club,
where she served as president,
vice president, and treasurer.
Beth has been selected as both
the Outstanding Senior 4-H
Member and the 2002 York Fair
Outstanding 4-H Member. She
has shown heifers and steers at
the Farm Show in the past.
She is especially interested in
promoting agriculture, saying,
“I’ve always enjoyed sharing my

with others,

market lambs
and swine at
the Farm Show
for the past
four years.
Sherisa attends Penn State
University. Sherisa’s future plans
include giving back to the FFA
program, as she hopes to become
an agriculture teacher upon grad
uation. She says, “the education
al and developmental values that
the FFA have bestowed upon me
are indescribable in words.
Through the FFA, I have learned
how to speak in public, parlia
mentary procedure, how to lead
and effectively participate in
group discussions, responsibility
and the role you play on a team,
and also the positive and nega
tive aspects of many different
types of leadership.”

ident of both the swine and gar
den clubs and as a member of the

She attends the California
University of Pennsylvania,
where she is in the honors pro
gram majoring in Secondary Ed
ucation with a specialty in Math.
Ashley has shown market swine
at the Farm Show since 1996.
According to Ashley, in the fu
ture she plans to use her teaching
position to increase student
awareness of agriculture. She
says, “I plan on using my public
speaking ability to inform par
ents and children by giving dem
onstrations about the possibilities
of 4-H.”
• Keri Connelly, Pennsylvania
Furnace, is the daughter of Ron
ald and Denise Connelly. Keri at
tends Penn State, where she ma
jors in Animal Science.
While in 4-H she held many
offices in both the Centre Hall Ag
Club and the Mount Nittany
Dairy Club. Keri has exhibited
swine projects at the Farm Show
since 1995 and captured grand
champion market hog honors in
1998.
Keri says, “I would not be
where I am today had it not been
for what I learned during my
days of raising and exhibiting an
imals through 4-H. As I plan the
future that is ahead of me, I look
to the lessons that I have learned
in the past and use them to direct
my future.”
• Timothy Crouse, son of
Brenda and the late Bryan
Crouse, is a 2002 graduate of Li
titz Christian School. He is a
freshman at Penn State Universi
ty, majoring in Animal Sciences.
At Penn State, Tim is involved in
the Dairy Science Club and Penn
State Navigators. Upon gradua
tion, he hopes to become a dairy
herd manager.
Tim was a member of the Leb
anon County Swine and Beef
clubs and the recipient of the
2002 Lebanon County 4-H Foun-

dation Scholarship. He is an
8-year exhibiter market swine at
the Farm Show.
“My involvement in 4-H has
played a very vital role in my
personal development and has
also played a significant role in
helping me decide my career di
rection after high school,” he
said.
• Justin Cunfer, son of Dennis
and Deanna Cunfer, has shown
market swine at the Farm Show
for the past five years, capturing
champion honors in the Land
race breed for the past two years.
He graduated from Lehighton
Area High School in 2002. Justin
was a member of the Carbon
County 4-H Livestock Club, serv
ing as president and vice presi
dent for a total of seven years. He
is a freshman at Penn State,
where he majors in Animal Sci
ence with a future goal of becom
ing a large animal veterinarian.
Justin also attended the 2001
Governor’s School for Agricul
ture Sciences.
Justin says, “through my in
volvement in 4-H, I have gained
the ability and responsibility to
feel confident in the show ring,
preside at meetings, and talk in
front of crowds.”
• Clinton Porringer, from
Home, Indiana County, is the son
of Robert and Sandra Ferringer.
He is a 2002 graduate of Marion
Center High School. He attends
the Punxsutawney campus of the
Indiana University of Pennsylva
nia, majoring in Health and
Physical Education, with the goal
of someday becoming a teacher
and FFA advisor.
Clint has been active in both
4-H and FFA in leadership and
with several projects. He has
shown market swine at the Farm
Show for three years. Clint will
receive his Keystone Farmer de
gree at the 2003 Farm Show. “I
believe I am a more mature, sen
sible, responsible; and well
rounded person because of my in
volvement with 4-H and FFA.
“Undoubtedly, livestock exhi
bition is the best experience I
