CATTLE: Compared to Thursday, slaughter
cows sold mixed; although mostly steady to
firm. The top of the Breaking cow prices are
quoted lower, however the top was never tested.
Cow carcass cutout values continue to close
steady to firm, which is lending good support,
especially when between 1100-1300 cows con
tinue to hit the markets of Lancaster County.
Slaughter bulls sold 2.00-3.00 lower, with in
stances sharply lower The bull run was very
heavy for a Monday, with nearly 100 head on
the books. Even though prices were lower, de
mand for fed and young bulls remains very
good. Nearly 44 percent of the run was made up
of slaughter cows.

CATTLE; Compared to Thursday, slaughter
steers sold fully LOO higher; with instances up
to 1 SO higher on the fancy high Choice and
Prime stock. It became apparent that 80.00 fed
cattle this winter could be a reality after all as
several fancy steers on Tuesday sold from
79.00-81.00; and once the good ones are there it
might not be long before the ring man starts the
rest of them with an 8 instead of a 7. Even
though the February Board is a little sporadic
as it teeters on both sides of 81.00, it is still ex
tremely feeder supportive. Holstein steers sold
with a firmer undertone on light tests. Slaughter
heifers sold steady to firm in mixed quality.
Breaking and Boning cows sold .50-1.00 lower,
with the Lean cow supply trendmg steady to .50

Compared to Tuesday, slaughter steers sold
fully .SO-LOO lower. The quality of the run was
very mixed, as there was even a pot-load of
show steers on hand, as the Harrisburg, PA
Farm Show wraps up. The numbers were there
for buyers to put loads together, but the varied
finish did not make it easy. There were quite a
few lighter muscled steers that were Yield
Grade 4‘s, and needless to say do not make a
good combo. Bids were even tighter late in the
run as buyers backed off even more. The
slaughter Holstein and heifer supply was too
light early in the week to fully test Thursday's
tun. There was a good selection of well finished
Holsteins on offer, with bidding and interest
both fairly good. Slaughter cows sold very
mixed, dependent on period of the sale. Bids
kicked off with same beat behind them, then
tapered up and down after the open. When
things were said and done, prices trended about
steady. Buyers had no need to fight over them
either as over 500 head of cows were in the
barn. Slaughter bulls sold with a firmer under
tone when compared to Tuesday's light run, as
another 100 head made their way to town. The
supply included 31 percent steers, 4 percent
heifers, 39 percent cows, 7 percent bulls, with
the balance feeders.
