NATIONAL SLAUGHTER CATTLE
SUMARY for Week Ending Jan 10,2003.
Slaughter cattle demand very good with
trade opening Tuesday several dollars
over last week. Trade was nearly com
pleted by Wednesday with only clean-up
remaining. Each trade session inched
higher than the previous session ending
the period fully 3.00 higher on live basis
and 5.00-6.00 higher dressed. Show lists
were cleared early leading the way for an
other interesting trade next week. Packers
are expected to slow slaughter rates next
week in an effort to move beef values up
to compensate for higher live figures.
USDA’s boxed beef cut-out values Friday
morning averaged 125.45 up 6.30 from
last Friday. Sales of slaughter cattle on a
national basis for negotiated cash trades
are large at 236,700 through 10:00 a.m.
Friday. Last week’s full count was
220,700.

SLAUGHTER COWS AND BULLS
(Average Yielding): Compared to last
sales on December 17, 2002: Slaughter
cows steady to 2.00 higher. Slaughter
bulls steady. Drought in Australia could
limitimports. This combined with lighter
fed cattle numbers should make non-fed
beef better property than usual this quar
ter. USDA’s Cutter cow carcass cut-out
value closed Thursday at 88.34 up 2.18
from last Friday.
