CATTLE: Compared to Thursday,
slaughter steers sold steady to .50 higher;
with the bulk of the increase on Mon-
prices. The bulk of the run was
made up of slightly over-finished stock,
which was carrying some fill. However,
buyers did not shy away from the weigh
ups as the bulk of the Choice steers still
brought from mostly 74.00-76.00 in rela
tively active trading. Many producers are
trying to hold their steers until later this
winter as the February live cattle con
tract at the CME is currently above
80.00; which is expected to add contin
ued support this winter. This seems logi
cal, although when held too long the

1400-1600 lbs overweight Yield Grade 4 or
5; which will no doubt be discounted. A
small test of Holstein steers sold with a
firmer undertone on Monday, with not
enough on Tuesday for a market test. An
attractive run of slaughter heifers sold
nearly 1.00 higher on Monday, with Tues
day's light supply not tested.
Slaughter cows sold weak to .75 lower.
Buyer attendance was good, but the trade
never seemed to catch fire. Slaughter bulls
sold steady to firm on a good run. The
supply included 34 percent steers, 7 per
cent heifers, 54 percent cows, 5 percent
bulls, with the balance feeders.
