    Lehigh County 4-H Members Honored For Accomplishments

Five Lehigh County 4-H Club
members were named outstand
ing boy or girl for their 4-H club
work and participation in activi
ties at the annual 4-H
Achievement Night, held recent
ly-
Thomas Nardo of Coopersburg
and Hannah Geiger of Schneck
sville were named Outstanding
Boy and Girl among 8- to
10-year-olds. Nardo is a member
of the Southern Lehigh Helping
Hands 4-H Club and worked on
bicycle, computer, and wood
working projects among others
last year. Geiger is a member of
the Neffs Cloverettes 4-H Club.
She completed a sewing project
last year. Each received a schol
arship to attend 4-H Camp She
haqua next summer.

were recognized as Outstanding
Boy and Girl, ages 11 to 14.
Knauss worked on projects simi
lar to those of Nardo as a mem
ber of the Southern Lehigh Help
ing Hands 4-H Club. Rassler is a
member of both the Dairy 4-H
Club and the Beef 4-H Club. She
and some other youth pioneered
a new project, Dairy Beef, last
year. Both award recipients won
student planners to help them
keep track of their busy sched
ules.
■Rachel Rennie, Center Valley,
was named Outstanding Girl
among 15- to 18-year-olds. She
will be Lehigh County’s delegate
to next year’s National 4-H Con
gress in Atlanta, Georgia. As a

year, Rachel completed projects
ranging from computers to sew
ing. She is also a member of the
Teen Leadership 4-H Club and
the Veterinary Science 4-H Club.
Rennie was a camp counselor last
summer. She also was one of two
teens on the Pennsylvania delega
tion to the National 4-H Technol
ogy Conference in Minnesota last
summer.
Club officers were recognized
for their excellent work. Andrew
Knauss won honors for his work
as president of the club. Jennifer
Rassler was recognized as an out
standing club secretary. Kristin
Hulshart, Macungie, won honors
for her work as treasurer of the
Country Cabbits 4-H Club.
The Southern Lehigh Helping
Hands 4-H Club won $25 for the
best club scrapbook. The Neffs
Cloverettes 4-H Club and the
Equine 4-H Club each won $25
as outstanding clubs that met
standards set for club work.
Adult volunteers were also rec
ognized for their years of work as
club leaders. Completing their
first year as a 4-H volunteer were
Kenneth Gehringer, Kutztown;
Robin Rassler, Kempton; and
Vicki Schantzenbach, Coopers
burg, all with the Beef 4-H Club.

Club and now with the Emmaus
4-H Sewing Club.
Teens received recognition for
their work as teen leaders in their
clubs. Leadership may be formal
such as holding an office or act
ing as a camp counselor. Some
teens teach projects to younger
members. Informal types of lead
ership include helping younger
members learn and practice a
project-related skill or teaching
youth one-on-one how to do a
demonstration or show and tell.

to 4-H members for outstanding
work.
