The markets were largely neutral on reaction to USDA’s Milk Produc tion and Cold Storage reports. The November Cold Storage re port also had some bad news. Butter inventories in November were up 135 percent from a year ago to 136.3 mil lion pounds. American cheese inven tories were up 8 percent from a year ago to 474.4 million pounds, and Other cheese inventories were up 10 percent in November to 200.9 million pounds. It is surprising that cheese and butter inventories can be so high given the slowdown in milk produc tion. This is likely due to a combina tion of weak demand and some im ports. It is very different in the villages. There are good opportunities to help the villag ers in Moldova with rural economic development. People in the villages are very nice and friendly. They invited me into their homes and offered me all their food and wine. I very much appreci ated their hospitality. The villagers were happy to see me and they had a positive image of the U.S. The concept of a cooperative is (Turn to Page Al 9) „ , w Previous Previous Open High Low Last Chge Vo|ume openJnt 0 0 131 20693 29 8186 16 2103 27 4781 1 1467 0 1017 0 249 0 69 0 0 0 444744474447 -246 5310 542553005397 +B2 5930 604759306042 +lO2 6360 644563426435 +7O 6590 669065706685 +73 6285 637562806372 +62 6050 608560506067 +22 5297 531052975302 unch 5197 522551975225 +4B 5375 5375 5375 5375 +5 ~ ¥I . . ¥ ¥ , Previous Previous Open High Low Last Chge Volume open 0 0 103 3450 ~ ... . w .
