Farm Show 2003 Posts Demo, Seminar Schedule

Large Arena of the Farm Show Complex Tuesday, Jan. 14
and Wednesday, Jan. 15. See equipment like this for

Loan Program Assists Next Generation
HARRISBURG (Dauphin
Co.) Agriculture Secretary
Sam Hayes recently announced
that funding is available to eligi
ble farmers through the Next
Generation Farmer Loan Pro
gram.
This collaborative effort, spon
sored by the departments of Agri
culture and Community and
Economic Development, helps fi
nance agricultural endeavors that
will strengthen Pennsylvania
farm communities for years to
come.
“The unique partnership we
have developed among farmers,
lenders and county economic-de
velopment agencies will help the
next generation of farmers and
their families begin and preserve
our farm business enterprises,”
Secretary Hayes said.

To assist eligible farmers, fed
eral tax-exempt mortgage financ
ing is used to reduce a farmer’s
interest rate for capital pur
chases. The Next Generation
Farmer Loan may be used be
tween a borrower and a lender
for a loan to make a direct pur
chase of a farm and agricultural
machinery and equipment or be
tween a buyer and seller for a
contract purchase. Through the
Next Generation Farmer Loan
Program, interest is exempt from
federal, state and county taxes.
Assistance is limited to
amounts and terms determined
by the lender and contract seller.
Eligible candidates must meet
the following guidelines:

• Residency The applicant
must be a permanent resident of
Pennsylvania when the loan is is
sued;
• Age The applicant must be
at least 18 years old when the
loan application is submitted;
• Capital Requirements The
applicant will be required to doc
ument to the satisfaction of the
lender that they will have access
to adequate working capital,
farm equipment and livestock, if
appropriate;
• Ownership and Active Par
ticipation The owner must be
the sole owner and principal user
of the project; and
• Prior Ownership The ap
plicant must not have had any
prior ownership interest in a sub
stantial amount of land.

The new and expanded Farm Show opens to the public on
Saturday, Jan. 11. And one of our largest, and best issues, is
soon to hit mailboxes. The Jan. 11 issue will be Lancaster
Farming’s own Farm Show Issue, which highlights the newly
expanded, largest indoor agricultural event in the country.
