CATTLE C ompared to Thursday s light run,
slaughter cows sold SO-1 00 lower, with most of
the decrease on the fleshier tows Buyer attend
ance and activity were only moderate early in
the week, eyen with only a little oyer 150 head
on hand Boneless beef yalues were steady on
Friday, with local packer buyers regrouping
early in the week as their inventories are still
pretty good Slaughter bulls sold 100-3 00
lower, although the quality of the light supply
was yery good Receipts for all classes of live
stock at Monday's sale were reduced dramati
cally due in part to the opening day of deer sea
son, as many hunters have been waiting for
months to fill their freezeis with venison and
figure their stock can wait until later in the
week Slaughter cows made up nearly 60 per
cent of the run

LAST YEAR
Compared to Thursday, a fairly light run of
slaughter steers sold steady to weak Mondays
run included around 100 head of fed steers, al
though Tuesdays supply tapered off to only
around 80 head, and bids were definitely sup
ported by the light numbers Even though there
were a few lots of fancy steers on offer, there
was definitely a noticeable increase in over and
under-finished stock Local producers are about
to get all of their finished steers cleaned out as
another round of 5-6 weight feeders hit the
bams, and historically this time of the year
translates into lighter runs Howevir, it is very
noticeable that some producers are keeping
their steers too long, and others are shipping
them to town too soon, to try and get in on the
current hot market And in some instances it is
panning out if the finish is off, as some of the
heavyweight stock is bringing upwards of 71 00,
even the under-finished stock is in demand as
some brave souls are willing to procure the
1100-1200 flounders to go back to feed with in
hopes there is still some fire under the market
this winter, with the February live cattle con
tract at the CMF well above 78 00 Holstein
steers and fed heifers were in ven short supply,
and a trend was not established I can slaughter
cows sold firm to I 00 higher with fleshier cows
trending fullv steady A run of nearly 400 cows
on Tuesday lent to a good selection and bid
ding was moderate to good throughout the sale
with increased hour attendance Slaughter
bulls sold with a lower undertone on a light run
