The PPD represents each producer’s share of the value generated by the marketwide pool. The PPD is added to the payment producers receive for their milk’s components and is adjusted for the location of the receiving plant(s). The SUP and PPD decrease by sched uled amounts the fur ther away the plant(s) receiving the producers’ milk are from Suffolk County, Mass. (Boston). The Class prices for milk pooled in October are as follows: Class I, $13.40 (Suffolk County, Mass.); Class 11, $11.12; Class 111, $10.72; and Class IV, $10.50. Com parable prices for Octo ber 2001 were: Class I $19.18, Class II $13.53, Class 111 $14.60, and Class IV price $12.77. The component values for October 2002 are protein, $2.1839 per pound; butterfat, $1.0726 per pound; other solids, $0.0755 per pound; and nonfat so lids, $0.7765 per pound. Milk receipts from producers totaled 1.974 billion pounds. Class I utilization, milk pro cessed as beverage milk, was 48.5 percent of pro ducer milk receipts. The average Class I utiliza tion was 47.8 percent in October 2001. The manufacture of Class II products such as cream, ice cream, yo gurt, and cottage cheese utilized 20.0 percent of producer milk. Milk used to manufacture Class 111 products such as cheese (American and Italian) and evaporated and condensed products utilized 26.9 percent of total milk receipts. Class IV usage (butter, nonfat and whole milk powder) equaled 4.6 percent of the total.
