CFS Has New Beginning
CARLISLE (Cumberland
Co.) The CFS organization,
consisting of Chambersburg
Farm Service and Carlisle Farm
Service, began a new era of oper
ation Nov. 1.
CFS was organized by a
group of farmers in Franklin
County more than 30 years ago.
The fundamental principal for
founding the business was to
assure themselves and fellow
farmers that there would be a
local dealership to provide qual
ity parts and service for their
equipment. Over time, the or
ganization grew to have more
than SO employees and more
than 60 shareholders.
Throughout the ’7os, ’Bos,
and ’9os, CFS did well, achiev
ing local, regional and national
recognition for various achieve
ments. However, in October
2001, CFS found itself in a posi
tion to seek Chapter 11 bank
ruptcy protection. Since that
time, CFS has operated under
the uncertain conditions that
“bankruptcy” signifies.
On Oct. 31. the assets of CFS
were bought by Carlisle Equip-
