Feeder Pie Auction
NEW HOLLAND, PA
November 6,2002
Report Supplied By USDA
Receipts; 560 Last Week: 463 Year
Ago: 378
Compared to last week, there were not
enough pigs going back on feed to test the
market; although on the few comparable
lots, prices trended with a lower under
tone. Slaughter pigs sold sharply lower in
inactive bidding, and very light buyer in
terest. There were over 100 head more on
the books when compared to last week,
although the increase in numbers could
not be linked to the lower bids; it was just
a case of slaughter pig buyers not needing
pigs to fill their immediate needs. The few
feeder buyers on hand were cautious
when procuring their pigs, as the slaugh
ter hog market remains very unstable. Lo
cally, finished hogs are bringing from
28.00-31.00; with the Western terminal
markets moving their 220-270 pound
hogs from 27.00-28.50. All pigs were
weighed and graded on arrival and sold
by the hundred weights.

Hog Auction
NEW HOLLAND, PA
November 4,2002
Report Supplied By Auction
HOG RECEIPTS: 615 head, last Mon
day 519; last year 1200.
Compared to last Monday, barrows
and gilts sold 2.00-4.00 higher; with hogs
weighing over 300 lbs trending sharply
higher in very active bidding, especially
early. Buyer attendance was about like
normal, although buyers were much more
interested in procuring hogs than last
week. The slaughter hog market remains
very volatile with many unknowns in the
equation. On one hand, tenrtinal markets
out West are again trading hogs this week
from 27.00-30.00, after losses the week be
fore. Also, the demand for pork seems to
be keeping up with the supply as over
395,000 head of hogs hit kill floors across
the U.S. every day last week. However,
many Americans are gearing up for the
holiday season as we clear the first week
of November, and with that millions of
pounds of turkey will
be purchased for
Thanksgiving con
sumption; leaving the
demand for ‘the other
white meat in question.
