Milk Vending Machine Grants Available To Local Schools HARRISBURG (Dauphin Co.) Milk vending machines could be coming to a school near you. After extensive milk vending machine testing in schools, the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program and Mid-Atlantic Dairy Association are working together to offer $l,OOO grants to schools that purchase or lease milk vending machines in western and southeastern Pennsylvania. By adding milk to the line-up of items vended at school, students have a healthy beverage choice that is fun to drink and jam-packed with all the essential nutrients they need for healthy bodies. In 2000, the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council Mid East conducted a milk vending machine research study with Smith’s Dairy of Orrville, Ohio. In the 2001 na tional school milk vending test, Dairy Management Inc. veri fied the findings that kids will drink more milk if it’s served cold and available in a variety of flavors. The milk vending machines do just that. During the two studies, the average school sold 280 units of milk each week, most of which was flavored. That is an additional 10,080 units sold during a 36-week school year.
