Hog Auction
NEW HOLLAND, PA
October 28,2002
Report Supplied By Auction
HOG RECEIPTS: 519 head, last Mon
day 692; last year 1204.
Compared to last Monday, barrows
and gilts sold fully 6.00-7.00 lower in very
stagnant bidding. The auction opened up
with very light buyer attendance, al
though even when the attendance im
proved later in the sale, bids did not. It
was very apparent that buyers were not
very interested in procuring hogs, and
that they wanted to realign with the
Western terminal markets. Therefore,
with the Western markets quoting hogs
from 23.50-26.00, prices trended sharply
lower locally.

Feeder Pig Auction
NEW HOLLAND, PA
October 30,2002
Report Supplied By USDA
Receipts; 463 Last Week: 471 Year
Ago: 309
Compared to last week, feeder pigs sold
sharply higher on a fairly good run. Feed
er buyers are still banned from shipping
pigs across the state line due to the pseu
do-rabies outbreaks from 6-8 weeks ago;
although local demand has picked up
dramatically over the past couple of
weeks. Slaughter pigs sold mixed, with
20-30 pounders trading steady to in
stances 12.00 higher; and all other
weights trading mostly steady to instances
weaker. There was a fairly decent crowd
on hand for Wednesdays 1 high quality
run, although the cold weather kept a few
of the regular buyers at home. All pigs
were weighed and graded on arrival and
sold by the hundred weights.
