Breaking and Boning cows sold most ly steady to weak, with instances of LOO lower. Fleshy cow receipts were fairly light, although those on hand were in very good condition. Bid ding was moderate to active on all classes, and bids may have been higher on the Breaking cows had there been a stronger run. Buyer at tendance was higher when compared to last Monday, which caused prices to hold fairly steady; considering bids have been several dol lars lower to begin the week over the past few Mondays'. Slaughter bulls sold mostly steady to weak on continued attractive runs. Slaughter cows made up nearly S 3 percent of the run. Holstein bull calves sold with a weaker under tone on only moderate bidding. Buyers were in good attendance, but seemed only mildly inter ested in procuring calves early in the week. The bull run was made up of primarily average type stock, with bidding very sporadic at times due to the quality. Receipts were very light on the heifer supply; therefore a trend was not estab lished. However, the light run trended with a lower undertone. There has not been enough large slaughter calves over the past few weeks to ensure an adequate market test. However, the supply was comprised of some fairly good calves, with bidding active even though buyer attendance was light. Utility and Good 1-3 30.00-45.00. GOATS; Compared to last week. Kid goats were not tested due to a light run made up of mostly 20-40 pounders. Yearlings sold 2.00 to as much as 10.00 higher on a very good run. The yearling supply was made up of some very nice stock, especially early; where bidding was very active as buyers welcomed the increase in both quality and re ceipts. Nannies sold very mixed, although most ly weaker on a fairly plain run; however, due to the light Nanny supply, the top was never tested. Wethers sold steady to 11.00 higher on a very good run. Early in the sale a very fancy consignment of Wethers drew a lot of attention, and bidding was very active throughout the sale the heavier muscled supply. Billies drew energy from the Wether supply trending sharply high er. The Billie run was above average, and it was apparent buyers are still willing to pay top dol lar for the heavy muscled stock. October 29,2002 Report Supplied By USDA Cattle Calves Sheep Goats THIS WEEK 897 916 0 1 LAST WEEK 817 775 0 2 LAST YEAR Compared to Thursday, slaughter steers sold mostly steady on Monday, only to trade with a lower undertone on Tuesday. The supply was very mixed over the two day sale which caused buying activity to be very sporadic. Buyers did show some interest in owning the High Choice and Prime stock, the only problem was the fancy types were in light supply. Although, there was an increase in receipts as nearly 400 head of steers went through the ring. Holstein steers were in relatively light supply, with most of the supply not comparable to Thursday. Fat Holstein buyers are becoming fairly rare, which is leading to uncertain demand. Slaughter heif ers were in very light supply, with the few com parable groups trending with a lower under tone. Lean slaughter cows sold fully 1.00 lower on an uneven supply, with Breaking and Bon ing cows trending 1.00-2.00 lower. There was a good run of fleshier cows, although buyer activi ty was light. Due to the very light run of slaugh ter bulls, a trend was not established.
