Hog Auction
NEW HOLLAND, PA
October 14,2002
Report Supplied By Auction
HOG RECEIPTS: 696 head, last Mon
day 552; last year 1236.
Compared to last Monday, barrows
and gdts sold fully 1.00-3.00 higher on a
very good run. Bidding started out mod
erate to good as buyers tested the waters,
however, as the quality increased buyers
through caution to the wind and dove
right in. Bidding was very active right up
to the end, especially on the fancy straight
hogs. The Western terminal hog markets
are moving hogs .50 lower to kick off the
week, from 31.00-32.50; with the Eastern
pork buyers beginning to pay a little more
so they can stock up for the quickly ap
proaching holiday season.

Feeder Pig Auction
NEW HOLLAND, PA
October 16,2002
Report Supplied By USDA
FEEDER PIGS- WEDNESDAY 246,
LAST WEEK 395, LAST YEAR 409.
Compared to last week, a feeder pig trend
was not established as 100 percent of the run
went to slaughter. Bidding was very sporad
ic, as lighter weight number one pigs sold
weak to sharply lower; with heavier number
ones holding about steady on the compara
ble weights. However, the number two pigs
sold steady to firm on the comparable
weights. The recent pseudo-rabies outbreaks
still has the state locked down, which trans
lates into no out of state feeder buyers.
Therefore, the slaughter buyers were able to
procure them a little cheaper as they begin
to stock up for the holiday season. Receipts
were hampered by the first Nor'easter of the
season, which brought heavy rains into the
area turning most low lying areas into small
ponds. Most farmers are not complaining
about the recent increase in moisture, as the
county was well behind its usual precipita
tion. All pigs were weighed and graded on
arrival and sold by the hundred weights.
