Montgomery County Opens
First EB5 Station
EDGEWATER, Md. With
the national push to support al
ternative fuels, drivers in Mont
gomery County will be able to
join the ranks as the first £B5
station in Montgomery County
opened to both the government
and private users in May.
County Executive Douglas
Duncan opened the new station,
at 16640 Crabbs Branch Way in
Rockville at the county’s refill
ing facility.
The opening of this alterna
tive fuel station demonstrates a
strong commitment by the coun
ty to use EB5 as an alternative
fiiel. E-8S is a mixture of 85 per
cent ethanol and 15 percent gas
oline. Ethanol is a renewable
fuel made from com, wheat, bar
ley or any starch-based product.
It has become the front-runner
in the quest for seniority in the
fuel industry.
Though EB5 really is not new
(the Midwest has been produc
ing EB5 for several years), its
presence on the East Coast is
just beginning. Several states are
in the planning stages for etha
nol' plant construction making
The popularity of crop reve
nue coverage (CRC) continues.
Fifty-seven percent of the buy
up com policies are CRC. If cur
rent com market trends contin
ue, many CRC policyholders
will receive a coverage increase
in the neighborhood of $2O to
$3O per acre without an addi
tional premium cost, depending
on their historical yield and cov
erage choice.

its availability even greater. Au
tomakers are doing their part to
promote the expanded use of
EB5 by offering a growing list of
vehicles known as “flexible fuel
vehicles” for the consumer.
Currently, the 3.0-liter Ford
Taurus, 3.0-liter 2WD Ford
Ranger Pickup, 2000 Chevrolet
2.2 liter S-10 pickup, 4.0-liter
Ford Explorer, 4.0-liter Ford
Sport Tracs, 3.3 liter family of
Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth
Mini-vans and the GMC 2.2-liter
Sonoma Pickup, GM Suburban,
and Tahoe can all be purchased
capable of using E-85. These
flexible fuel vehicles can run ei
ther on E-85, 100 percent gaso
line, or any combination in be
tween. All the major automakers
are including more vehicles in
the coming model years, which
would include the ESS option.
These vehicle options provide
the caring consumer with the op
portunity to use alternative fuel
and make a difference without
any incremental vehicle cost.
